AR: Hi there Mike, to start off the interview, would you tell us a little about your project?
Mike: Hello, well MikTek started about 3 years ago and at the first steps the style was something like experimental/techno, but I was not so happy with it as it didnt came from inside me and my experience was really low. 1 year later I started playing with breaks, either distorted or not. I could`nt decide the style I want to follow even now. Every track is another story, different style, sometimes dark and sometimes very melodic. So basically Miktek is a mix of music experiments.
AR: You just released an EP called “Speculations” on Abstrakt Reflections. Any thoughts about it? What do you expect?
Mike: Speculations is one of my favorite collections of tracks – it`s like a sad person`s diary. I hope the listeners can have their own thoughts and feelings with this EP. That`s my idea of putting those tracks together and I was really excited when they asked me to release it on Abstrakt Reflections. What I expected is already done, nothing more.
AR: What are your influences and how do you go about composing a song?
Mike: Influences…life, daily emotions. My music depends on my psychology, angry, sad, excited. What I like the most is to watch a movie or a short film and want to make the music for it. I like playing with sounds, atmospheres and combine pictures together. I dont know much in music, I`m not a professional. I only use my ears and I`m like: “Oh yes, that was an amazing sound, lets put it there and there.”. After that, I start playing around with samples, pads, FX and even if I like what I created, I will change it again just to see how it’ll sound with different samples and pads. I enjoy that a lot – I`m open to any comments and critics and I don`t expect that everyone is going to like my music, if it`s good then it`s good, if bad, It will just make me better. That`s how I work .
AR: Any future plans for Miktek? Would you like to tell us a little about the project SEC 1nine 13?
Mike: Part of my plans for MikTek is to have an album ready soon or maybe a new EP, not sure yet. I don`t want to be in a hurry or something, I prefer to just let it flow. Well, the project SEC 1nine13 started after a remix from Zach (Apparent Symmetry) for one my tracks on my first release and in the meanwhile Steven (In A Mindset) followed up to finish the track. The result was amazing as I see it and they both also were really excited about this. The idea of starting a new project was just a matter of time.
AR: We heard that you might start doing livesets this year, is that true?
Mike: That`s right, I might start doing livesets but don`t consider myself to be ready yet. I had a few suggestions and I`m working really hard to make that happen.
