Hello, my name is Alexey Semenov and I create sound landscapes. Many know me as the creator of several dance and experimental music projects (Don’ttouchmebitch !, Primary substance, Harakiri ms) and a member of a number of different groups and associations, but here I would like to talk about Russian Outskirts.
The concept of music for me is more than creating tracks for electronic dance industry in accordance with its rules and genre laws. My creative tasks always involve new research. Whether it is the implementation of subjective mental content and abstractions like momentary mood in a specific sound form, or purely technical processes from the field of sound design. It is always an immersing in the darkness of the unknown, a journey without a map, or a trip caused by a substance that does not yet have its name.
Russian outskirts is not just a musical project, offering you some new musical compositions for listening. Russian outskirts is a desire to find and formulate a modern groove of the Russian periphery. This is the desire to express it, using relevant means and avant-garde sound forms. Also, this project is not solely a product of internal search, because its sound is largely due to a number of specific situations, which I try to describe using my own musical language.
Russian outskirts – it is not only the name of the project, it’s a new, conceptual trend in modern music, whose definition is not so much sounding as a content, geography, and creative search directed deep into this huge, paradoxical country.
