/ Interview with LPF12

AR: ..Hello Sascha, glad to have you with us and thank you for time. After a long absence from the music business, you decided to reactivate LPF12. How did it all started and what were the main reasons for taking such a long break?

Sascha: Well thanks to you, it’s great to be a part of this label! LPF12 started in 1993 as a tape-only-project. I released quite a lot of them and became well known as a workaholic. I’m quite productive I’d say and I love being in the studio, “punishing the machines”. After my 1995-tape “Enhance” I decided to take a creative break. Due to some personal reasons the break took 14 years. However, in 2009 I decided to restart it all because I’ve collected so many ideas during the break and felt the urge to be creative again. I found that with the use of the internet the publication of my work is way easier now than back in the 90s. That was one of the main reasons for my comeback.

AR: What is your inspiration, your influences and how do you go with creating your sound?

Sascha: The entire new album “Inhibition Level” was inspired by personal experiences regarding family-relationships, about betrayal and the loss of hope. It’s quite a sad album, very dark and energetic, because it deals with anger, revenge and some psychic self-torture. Well, let’s say this album is kind of a therapy for me. There are a lot of influences, musically speaking: old-school electro, ambient-stuff, filmscores, even some old Tangerine Dream-material. When I create a new track it’s always the same procedure: I start with a significant drum-line, add the main sequence and everything else. I will add the lyrics in the middle of the process. I delete, I re-arrange, delete once more, re-arrange … I must admit that I work very fast. Once I’m into the production I’m like obsessed with it.

AR: You released 4 tapes between 1993 and 1995 and appeared on various Compilation CDs. What`s the difference between now and then and what role does the Internet play for you, by giving you the opportunity to share your music with people from all over the world?

Sascha: Yeah, it’s been hard back then. I struggled to raise attention via magazines, self-distribution and stuff. Tough job, required a lot of time and money. However I managed to raise some attention and even now many people still like my old stuff. The internet changed everything,. During my break I was like sitting at home, watching all those bands coming up and using things like myspace and so on to distribute their music. Finally I decided to try that myself and luckily enough the people still like my kind of music. I really think that releasing it for free is a great opportunity to show my fans that everything that counts for me is that they listen to my stuff and hopefully like it. And I simply enjoy this very comfortable way to provide my music.

AR: You contacted us a few weeks later after a free release of the “Vicious Circle EP” in January this year. What do you expect in general and what does it means to you, giving your music away for free?

Sascha: You know, it’s hard to earn some money in this scene, no doubt about that. But I love the dark electro-industrial culture. Back in the days I desperately wanted a record-deal to earn some money with my passion. Well, no chance. But now I’m older and maybe wiser too. I’m a family-father, I’m grown-up. And I know one thing now: the most important thing is to have fun with the stuff you’re doing, no matter if you get paid for it or not. As I said before: my aim is to share my music with the fans, I want the connection, you know. Releasing it as a free download is the most easy and tempting way to get heard. And I think that’s all a musician really needs: listeners.

AR: Did you ever played any live shows and if not, would you like to do so?

Sascha: No, back then I considered LPF12 as a studio-project. But things have changed. I would love to play live. And I can tell you that there are some plans to be revealed … So expect LPF12 live in the future.

AR: What are the future plans for LPF12? Are there any other projects you`re involved in recently?

Future plans include working on the next album. Live-gigs. Doing some more remixes, get some compilation-work done. I’m in touch with a great bunch of musicians which wanna work with me, and I’m so damn happy about that. I love collaborating with talented artists. So expect quite a few collaborations in the near future. Keep an eye on LPF12!

AR: Thanks you very much for your time answering us these questions! Is there something you would like to add – some last words?

Yes, I wanna thank all the people out there for listening, promoting, criticizing and speaking about my stuff. It’s good to know that you are out there. I wanna add that I do NOT intend to take another creative break soon … ;) See you all very soon! Love and greets!
